# Create your Venue

> Register on the Local website and your Venue is created and branded automatically.

Signing up takes a few minutes and happens entirely on the website. You do not configure anything by hand — Local creates the Venue and fills in your branding for you.

## Before you start

Have ready:

* The **email address** you want to own the Venue with
* A **phone number** you can receive a verification code on
* Your **Venue's street address**

<Warning>
  The email address and phone number matter more than they look. You will claim the Venue in the app by signing in with one of them, and they must match what you register here. Use an address you control long-term, not a personal one you may lose access to.
</Warning>

## Register

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to the signup page">
    Open [meetlocal.app](https://meetlocal.app) and start the signup flow.

  <Step title="Enter your details">
    Email address, phone number, and your Venue's address.

    \[SCREENSHOT: signup form with the three fields]
  </Step>

  <Step title="Let Local build the Venue">
    Your Venue account is created immediately. Local then looks up your business and fills in what it finds: your logo, your website, your brand colours, a cover image, and your address polygon from OpenStreetMap.

    You can change any of it later from the app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow the setup wizard">
    The wizard asks about your Venue and recommends how guests should be verified — beacons, WiFi or GPS — based on its size and layout. You either order beacons here or request WiFi or GPS enablement.

## Your Venue is live, but empty

As soon as signup completes, the Venue exists on the platform. There is no approval step and no waiting period.

<Warning>
  **No guest can enter it yet.** A Venue with no presence gate is invisible in practice — Local has no way to detect that anyone is inside, so nobody is let in. Your Venue only becomes usable once beacons, WiFi or GPS verification is active.
</Warning>

This is deliberate. It means you can claim the Venue, set up your branding, build your menu and draft your content while you wait for beacons to arrive, and guests start arriving the moment presence goes live.

## What the AI filled in, and what it got wrong

The automatic enrichment is a head start, not a final answer. It is worth checking before you open to guests:

| Field | Where to check it |
| - | - |
| Venue name | Local tab → edit (pencil) icon |
| Logo and cover image | Same screen |
| Business category | Same screen — this one matters, because it sets your default gamification level names and point thresholds |
| Address | Contact Local support if the geofence is wrong |

<Tip>
  Get the business category right before you turn on gamification. The level names and the points needed to reach them are pre-tuned per category, and changing category later will shift the thresholds under guests who have already earned XP.
